When creating a new custom Administrator user type, it is important to understand the permissions associated with the custom Administrator user type and how it will behave with other Administrator user types.
To create a custom Administrator user type:
- Sign in as an Administrator.
- Go to User types (1).
- Select Add user type (2).
- Set a name (3), select Basic user type - Administrator (4), and then add the permissions for this user for each available feature (5).
You can find out more about how to edit/add a user type here. - Click Add (6) when ready.
Based on the selected permissions, the new Administrator user type may or may not be able to view other Administrator user profiles or impersonate them. Specifically, if the newly created custom Administrator user type does not have permission to edit Profiles and/or has at least one permission lower than other Administrator user types, then the new custom Administrator user type will not be able to view and edit the other Administrator users or impersonate them.
The custom Administrator user type needs to have edit access in Profiles and have at least the same or higher permissions in all other permissions to edit the other Administrator users and/or impersonate them.
For example, we’ve created the following two custom Administrators with the following permissions.
As you can see, the Supervisor user type has higher permissions in User types (7), Certificates (8), Themes (9), Languages (10), Extend Profile (11), and Profile (12) than the Manager. Therefore, a Supervisor user can view, edit, and impersonate a Manager user (13).
A Manager user, however, cannot do that (14).
