A quick way to find questions to add to a test is by using the filters that appear when you click on the "Select by criteria" (1) button found in the test's "Questions" tab.

Note: This feature is self-activated when a test unit contains 4 or more questions.

To do your search, use one or more of the following options:

• Questions: Type the number of questions you want your search to return (use a whole number).
• Time: Search by how much time you want the test to take. The search results are based on question duration, in seconds (again, use a whole number, e.g., 600 for 10 minutes of test time).
• Difficulty: Pick one or more of the four available difficulty levels (Low, Medium, Hard, Very hard).
• Select a question type: Pick one or more of the question types on the drop-down list (Empty spaces, Free text/File upload, Free text with keywords, Multiple choices - Single answer, Multiple choices - Many answers, Match, True/False, Drag and Drop, Matrix, Hotspot, Fuzzy correctness, Randomized).
• Select units from the list: From the drop-down list, pick one or more of the available units.

None of the filter fields are required. Therefore you can leave any of them blank.

Once you have entered your criteria, click on the "Assign question" (2) to view your search results. Click on the drop-down button (3) next to "Assign question" and pick the "Keep questions and assign new" (4) option to keep your results and add new questions, selected by another set of criteria.

Example

In the science course below there are 9 questions of 5 different types and various difficulty levels.

To assign a different set of questions of certain types and difficulty levels to a newly created recap test, we have to click on the "Select by criteria" (1) button. Then, we have to add the desired difficulty levels in the respective field (e.g., "Low" and "Medium" (2) and do the same for question types (e.g., "True/False" and "Matrix") (3). Finally, we have to click on the "Assign questions" (4) button.

The questions returned from our search are added to the unit and labeled as being "in use".

To further refine our selection we can define a "180" (5) seconds (3 minutes) test time in the respective field. The refined search returns 3 questions.

If we type a preferred number of questions into the "Questions" field (e.g., "2") and a "120" seconds time limit the system randomly selects only two of the questions that fit the rest of the search criteria.

Note: When adding questions to a test by using the "Select by criteria" feature, all selected questions are readily assigned to your test unit. However, this feature does not have the same function as a "Randomized" question (see this article). That is a specific question type that can be returned by a "Select by criteria" search and allows for your test to show a random question each time, as picked from a specified pool of questions.
